Narrated by Walter Cronkite, this 2008 documentary is a behind-the-scenes look at the lasting impact of the 1940 documentary Power and the Land. Commissioned by the Rural Electrification Administration for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and created by legendary filmmakers Pare Lorentz and Joris Ivens, Power and the Land tells the story of the Parkinson family, farmers in rural Ohio who electrified their farm with the help of a REA loan. The documentary helped raise awareness about the fact that, at the time, 75% of rural America was living without electricity. Nominated for three Emmy Awards, POWER FOR THE PARKINSONS examines, in depth, how this landmark film helped bring electrification to America's heartland.
