Guaranteed to shock even the most jaded of viewers, Claudio Assis' outrageous debut feature is a highly original, award-winning drama with the perfect confluence of style and story. A provocative tale set in the coastal city of Recife, Brazil, MANGO YELLOW (AMARELO MANGA) features a mosaic of exotic characters who live, work and play in a carnivalesque flophouse called the Texas Hotel: a philandering butcher, his born-again Christian wife, his secret mistress, a forlorn barmaid, a gay handyman and a necrophiliac who drinks blood. With a cleverly interconnected script and a bold, sun-drenched color palette, MANGO YELLOW is presented in Portuguese with English subtitles. This film is an official selection of the prestigious, award-winning Global Lens Collection, presented by the Global Film Initiative.

This is what an art house film should be. A slice of bizarre reality.

This is a negative vote for a foreign language film with a description in English (rather than the language of the film) without disclosure of subtitles, as a deception. Either a foreign language description, or disclosure, would be excusable -- honestly.
