Growing up in Beirut in the 1980s, twelve-year-old Lina doesn't show much interest in the war taking place around her. Rebellious and neglected by her self-destructive parents, Lina instead makes her aunt's beautiful adolescent maid the focal point of her childhood existence. As the basis for the girls' relationship shifts, issues of loyalty and power set off a series of events that isolate Lina even further. Unlike dramas in which the violence of an urban war zone motivates a family to strengthen their ties, this film explores relationships that are shattered by passion, reprisal and guilt. Directed by Lebanese journalist and filmmaker Danielle Arbid, IN THE BATTLEFIELDS (DANS LE CHAMPS DE BATAILLE) is presented in Arabic and French with English subtitles. This film is an official selection of the prestigious, award-winning Global Lens Collection, presented by the Global Film Initiative.
