This Eastern European drama is set in a multi-ethnic town in Soviet Azerbaijan, circa 1988. A divorced Armenian couple who live in different parts of town are forever in a tug-of-war over their eight-year-old daughter, Ashen. Ashen's father has remarried and his new Russian wife has become a second mother to the little girl. But when the conflict breaks out between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ashen's residence becomes a matter of safety, and her mother is forced to hand her over to her father. Ashen survives, but not her family; she loses her father and both mothers. But from the ashes, there is a ray of hope—she is rescued by an Azerbaijani neighbor who could not save her own daughter. Could this woman become Ashen's third mother? FROM TWO WORLDS AS A KEEPSAKE (YERKU ASHKHARIC I HISHATAK) is presented in Russian and Armenian with English subtitles. This film is an official selection of the prestigious, award-winning Global Lens Collection, presented by the Global Film Initiative.
