Reyhan, a young widow with two children, faces a difficult choice upon her husband's death. Rather than marry her brother-in-law (as required by traditional law), she instead decides to support her family by reopening her late husband's restaurant in their village near Iran's border with Turkey. Reyhan forges her new path—but is continuously pressured to move into her brother-in-law's home and become his second wife. Filmmaker Kambozia Partovia beautifully renders Reyhan's all-too-real struggle for self-sufficiency in this rigidly traditional environment. Iran's Official Submission for Best Foreign Language Film to the 2007 Academy Awards, BORDER CAFE (CAFE TRANSIT) is presented in Farsi, Greek, Turkish and Russian with English subtitles. This film is an official selection of the prestigious, award-winning Global Lens Collection, presented by the Global Film Initiative.
